Have you ever thought about saving some extra money not just by living a minimalist lifestyle? Lately, I am thinking a lot about this. It might be just because I am on maternity leave and money are a bit tighter at the moment or might be, it is because I am not earning as much as I used to and we want to build the house. There is a big target. Anyway, whatever is the reason, I came up with 8 simple ways how to easily save some extra money.
8 Simple Ways How To Save Money
Car insurance
Every year we save around £300 just by negotiating our car insurance. I never take what they come up with. I always get a quote from different companies then I call our insurance company and ask them if it’s possible to do some changes to the price that they offer. Just because others are cheaper. We do business with them and they want our money, so they always make us an offer what we like.
Change the tariff on your mobile
This is very useful especially if you travel abroad a lot or live abroad and you like to call your family at home more often. There are always some interesting offers going on. If not with your network provider, try somewhere else. This always works when you tell them you want to leave, they try everything to keep the customer.
Change electricity and gas supplier
This saved us loads of money last year. Try to call different companies and ask them for a quote. They also offer green electricity. Just ask. You would be surprised how much you can save.
Commuting to work
Especially in London, where we live, it is much better if you commute the same way every day, to go Pay as you go, instead of buying a monthly Travelcard. Or if you drive, try to share the journey with some colleague or neighbour if you go in the same direction.
Capsule Wardrobe for you, your husband and kids
You will benefit from this in a long run. Especially with kids capsule wardrobes, you can save loads of money in a year. You know they grow up so quickly and need loads of clothes, but don’t get too much you can always wash them. Buy bigger sizes so they have room to grow. What I do to save some money, I always buy one season ahead and on sale. I am not under the pressure of needing anything and I have time to look around. This is really good for adult wardrobe as well. Browse the shops before you need something. You even have plenty of time to decide if you really love it and need it or just want it.
Set up the budget ( weekly, monthly )
This is really good, it gave you some idea about your spending and savings. It will be much clearer for you to see how much and where you spend your hard-earned money.
Make a shopping list and stick to it
I started with this not a long ago, but it is much easier to go shopping and we avoid impulse and unnecessary purchases. And bonus, we spend less time in a shop.
Prepare food at home
I always cook, not just because it is healthier but it saves loads of money as well. I can prepare family food for 2 days for £10 or less and if you and every member of your family buy a sandwich every day for lunch it can cost you much more. Even if it’s only £3 every day in the long run it is loads of money which can be used somewhere else. And packed lunch doesn’t need to be only a sandwich, it can also be leftovers from last night dinner.
And one more extra, what I would like to try and stick to it is 52 weeks savings. The point of it is every week to save little money. On week one you start with £1, week two £2 and so on every week until week 52. In the end, you should save over £1300.
Those are my easy steps on how to save money every day/month/year. If you use something else please share it in the comments.
