Before we start to declutter or decorate we have to have an actual house. Right? So let’s start step by step. Once we decide to buy or build the house, we need to know what we want. I know it’s easier to say they do, as we want everything 🙂 that’s human nature. But do we really need 5 rooms if it’s only 3 of us? Or do we need a home gym if we never exercise? Or what about the storage? How big or small we need it? Especially if there is always a thing with more storage we get more clutter inside, just to take up space. And that’s what we definitely don’t need ;). It would be great before such a big decision to make the actual plan. Not just browse the houses and go for a viewing. And if you are lucky enough to build your house, try to think of all the little details. How many bathrooms do you need, how far are they from each other. Kitchen storage. Master bedroom and kids room. Do you actually need or want en-suite or you can save that space and money on something else. Little details but important decisions. Try to draw a house plan to give you some idea of what you want.
House Plans
Below I found two different plans to show you the difference. The top one is a 2-floor house, the below is a single floor bungalow. The 2-floor is an amazing plan, for someone who likes to spend loads of time at home. There is a theatre, retreat room and activity room. But is this really an average family house? Not really. The more average family house is a bungalow below. Everyone has their own room, their own space. There is a big open plan kitchen/living room. But still I would make one small adjustment. I would get rid of a small wall to make a space even bigger ( as per 3rd picture ) . That’s kind of details makes a big difference.

Other Details To Plan Ahead
There is more to do with the house plans, as everything will add up extra money once you build or renovate. Extra window costs money. To build an extra wall costs money, to adjust the roof costs money. It’s good to do a proper plan if you build on a budget. I know it might look nice, but open plan kitchen/living room gives you more space and natural light. And especially if you paint the wall in white you will have plenty of light and also the white walls make the rooms look bigger as they are brighter.
